Hyacinths

Before you is a bowl of blue hyacinths. Notice the arrangement of the bulbs and flowers in the bowl. As you breathe in smell the perfume of the flowers.

Look in more detail now at the bowl. Notice what the bowl is made of… the colour… the texture… being aware of any pattern or decoration that it has. Observe the compost in which the bulbs are growing. Notice how the shoulders of the bulbs show above the soil level.

Look more closely at one of the flower spikes. Notice the purple blue, fleshy stem that emerges from the bulb and carries many individual bell-shaped flowers. Clustered around the base of the stem are the young leaves of the bulb. The colour of each leaf varies from pale green at the base to a dark blue green at the tip.

The individual hyacinth flowers are borne all around the flower stalk. At the top of the stem the flowers are still in bud. Below these buds are flowers which are just beginning to open. The flowers at the bottom of the stalk are fully open and the outer edges of each one curl back. Look more closely at one of the open flowers. The petals of the flower are fused together at the base forming a bell shape. The free ends of the petals curl out and back on themselves. In the base of the flower are a number of yellow stamens. Notice the variation in the colouring of the petals. Bands of a darker hue lead to the centre of the flower. Feel yourself growing smaller until you are small enough to walk inside the flower. Follow one of the darker bands to the centre of the bell. Lie down and immerse yourself in the delicate perfume released by the flower.

The light reaching the centre of the flower has taken on a blue colour. Allow yourself to bathe in this blue light. Blue is the colour of peace, love, inspiration and tranquillity. As you lie in this blue light feel any tension and stress that you are holding in the body release. You are completely relaxed and at peace. The colour blue permeates every cell of your body bathing each one in peace and love.

As the mind relaxes you experience a deep tranquillity. Remain here in the blue light feeling totally relaxed and at peace with yourself and the whole universe.

[pause]

It is time for you to leave the flower now. Walk out from the centre of the flower and return to your normal size. You have left the flower and the blue light but the feelings of peace and tranquillity remain with you.
